20. Marceline the Vampire Queen (Adventure Time)
Marceline’s backstory is pretty dark, considering
she’s in a children’s cartoon. She was abandoned by her parents at the
beginning of The Mushroom War, and the only adult she meets slowly descends
into insanity because of a crown that gives him ice powers (you may
know who he is now). Probably why in her first appearance on the show she’s a
villain. Now she’s just a troublemaker/rockstar, which is slightly less evil
(unless you’re heavily religious, in which case it’s about the same). Marcey is
pretty harmless though, except when her father has her wear an amulet to take
over the Nightosphere.
19. Alice (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland)
It would be a curious thing if one of the literary
world’s most classic characters didn’t make this list. From the moment Alice
chases a rabbit down a hole, she is taken on an adventure that makes very
little sense; then again Lewis Carroll admits the book teaches nothing. The
weird and wonderful places Alice travels through introduce Alice to many
characters that are just as mad as the world she’s in.
18. Matilda Wormwood (Matilda)
As River Tam demonstrated, hyper-intelligence
causes psychic powers. At age six, Matilda is the youngest character on this
list (by her age in the book), and she was oh so much fun. I mean, what else
are you meant to do when your parents are mean AND stupid? NOT prank them,
especially when there’s no way they’ll find out is was you? Come on. But no
matter how much she does to her parents, it’s nothing compared to taking down
The Trunchball with her newly acquired psychic powers.
17. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter)
Kids, if anyone ever calls you weird, thank them.
It means you’re one stop closer to being Luna. Luna doesn’t care when people
call her Loony Luna, she whole heartedly embraces it. If Luna believes
something, then as far as she’s concerned it’s true until proven otherwise. You
know you’re awesome when the wizard destined to kill the Dark Lord says so, and
will gladly be seen in public with you. And when you go up against the Dark
Lord’s second in command and not get killed. Hell, the Death Eaters had to
kidnap her to try and make Dumbledore’s Army back down.
I’d also like to mention Evanna Lynch overcame
anorexia so she could play Luna when they made the Order of the Phoenix movie,
a promise made to her by J. K. Rowling herself. Lynch was eleven at the time. A
round of applause, if you will.
16. Kathryn Janeway (Star Trek: Voyager)
Oh good, we filled our redhead quota for today. You
know, there aren’t many captains that would willingly destroy their own ship
just to save their ship (it makes sense in context). Janeway is the captain of
the USS. Voyager sometime in the 24th century. While searching for a
Maquis ship, Voyager was accidentally hurled into the Delta Quadrant. From that
moment on, she heads both her crew and that of the Maquis in hopes of getting
them home. But she doesn’t just get on this list for just being a leader, oh
no. She’s on this list because Janeway doesn’t mess around. If something
requires immediate action, it gets immediate action. Also, she made fear itself scared
of her.
